Today’s generative AI can accelerate quality improvements in English and make them more cost-effective. When English is the target language, language quality pros should thus look to adopt generative AI tools right away. Other languages—even major ones such as Spanish—have lagged in attention and investment, so generative AI is unlikely to deliver the same results for those languages, at least for now.
- AI is more than generative AI—and its impact goes beyond linguistics.
While generative AI is taking off, it’s just as important to note the rapid progress of neural machine translation (NMT) in recent years. A combination of both technologies could offer more powerful solutions than either one by itself. Meanwhile, AI is poised to streamline and enhance many aspects of day-to-day work, such as project management.
- Know the risks before entrusting your language needs to AI.
The most powerful AI systems can still make significant mistakes. Before leaping in, gather all your stakeholders to establish how such errors could harm your objectives and what risks you can afford to take. In some cases, flawed content might be better than no content at all. But for mission-critical projects, expect to have humans in the loop for the foreseeable future.
